Over volunteers enhance the lives of our Selwyn Village residents and dementia day service clients, giving them greater opportunities to share their knowledge and life experiences, develop ongoing friendships with like-minded individuals, have fun, and engage with other people in a creative and meaningful way.

Our volunteers have the opportunity to take on a wide range of roles. They may be befrienders, activity assistants, pianists or drivers, for example, generously gifting their time, skills and talents for the benefit of others.

Volunteering with us

Requirements:

Volunteers should be kind, empathetic, friendly, interested in people and their stories, non-judgmental and mature. Volunteers need to be reliable, must have patience, common sense and a sense of humour. Good communication skills are required and a very good standard of conversational English, as some of our guests have difficulty with hearing and communicating. Any creative talents are a plus but not necessary. A first aid certificate would be beneficial, however basic training can be provided.  A Police background check is required for this role.

Selwyn Village

Our village is always open to having volunteers be part of our community to help with a variety of activities and special events with our residents. This could be helping with a craft activity, newspaper reading or even a general chat.

Time Commitment:

We have regular activities each week but also have special events where we need help so when filling out the volunteer enquiry form please let us know your availability.

To enquire about volunteering, please email us at volunteers@selwynvillage.co.nz

Volunteering is at the very core of being a human. No one has made it through life without someone else's help.
